The Fiddler House (also known as the Blue House)

“This is a brief history of the families who owned the property now known as Kersey Valley Paranormal Investigations. All information on this site was researched on Ancestry.com, GeneologyBank.com, Guilford County Register of Deeds and Newspapers.com.”

The Spainhour Family History

Fredrick Eugene Spainhour and his second wife Callie Lee Mills Spainhour bought the farm on Kersey Valley Rd around 1918 from the Armstrong family. We believe the Fiddler House was built by Fredrick around 1925–1927.

Fredrick was born on December 22, 1882, to John Silas Spainhour and Josephine Samuels Spainhour. He marries his first wife, Minnie Bodenhamer on February 22, 1905, and Minnie gives birth to their first child, Bessie Jane on July 2, 1905. Irie Spainhour was born on May 4, 1907 and dies later that year on August 18th. Minnie was born in 1874 and dies about a month after giving birth to Irie.

Fredrick then marries Callie Lee Mills on December 11, 1913. Virgina Mae was born on July 10, 1914, followed by a second daughter on July 20, 1916. The second daughter lived for 11 months and is listed as Infant of Fred E Spainhour. Nancy Louise Spainhour was born on May 24, 1918 and Robert Spainhour was born on April 4, 1922. We believe they were raised in the home until around 1935 when Fredrick sells the farm and moves to Clay, NC.

In the 1930 Census report, Charlie F Inman is listed as a border. Charley was Callie’s cousin and traveled between family-owned farms working as a laborer and living as a boarder. However, Charlie does not die on the property. He dies on August 31, 1953, at St Leos Hospital in Greensboro, NC. At this time Charley is living as an inmate at the Guilford Center Home for Aged Infirmary in Gilmore, NC.

The Ingram Family History

Joseph Ingram

Joseph was born in Johnson County, NC to Sir William Henry and Sarah Frances Barbur Ingram on January 25, 1865. At the age of 13 he loses his mom followed by his dad at the age of 19. He marries Rosa Elizabeth Johnson on December 18, 1891, and they have a total of seven children. Tragedy strikes again in 1935 when he loses a son and daughter. Myrtle Ingram Hayworth dies on March 5, 1935, at the age of 32. Then later that same year, Monnie Ingram, married to Pearl Ingram and working as a realtor in Whitesburg, Letcher Kentucky dies at the age of 36 on July 29, 1935.

Joseph and Rosa’s first daughter Rosa Mae was a dedicated teacher who taught first grade at Allen Jay Elementary. The property on Kersey Valley Rd was gifted to her and later sold to the Mitchell family in the mid 1950’s.

Rosa Elizabeth Johnson Ingram

Rosa was born on October 8, 1874. She was still living at the Rt 4, Kersey Rd address when she passes on November 15, 1971, at the age of 97.

Joseph and Rosa’s Children: Odie DeWitt Ingram (1899-1968), Monnie F Ingram (1899-1935) Rosa Mae Ingram (1901-1996) Myrtle M Ingram Hayworth (1902-1935) Blanche B Ingram Lee (1906-1987) William Ingram (1913-1979) Martha Ingram Cox (1917-2012)

Norman and Mary Anna Ingram Family History

Norman VanBuren Ingram and his wife Anna Ingram show up on the 1940 Census as renters on Kersey Valley Rd. The property is listed as “not a farm” and they pay $10.00 a month in rent. I’m really curious to know if they rented the Fiddler House from Rosa Mae Ingram in the 1940’s.

Norman was born September 10, 1909, in Archdale, Randolph County, NC, and dies in Jamestown Guilford on October 13, 1981. He marries Mary Anna King on February 25, 1939, in Randolph County. Mary Anna was born in Stokes County. NC on November 4, 1916 and lived to be 99 years old. She dies on March 17, 2016 in High Point, NC. There are no records on the couple having any children.

During their stay on Kersey Rd, Norman works at Globe Parlor Furniture, and he’s listed in the High Point Directory as working at Furniture City Upholstery Co in 1944. Anna stayed at home and did housework according to the 1940 Census report.

The Dean Family History

Florance “Flora” Hedgecock was born to John Hedgecock and Mary “Polly” Hendricks Hedgecock on October 11, 1854 in Guilford Co, NC. She marries James C Dean on March 17, 1877 and they owned the property that is currently known as Kersey Valley Paranormal Investigations. J C was a Reverend and Flora worked as a practical nurse.
